Chopra is a Punjabi Khatri family name. It comes from the word Chaupad, the Indian game (also known as parcheesi) played on a cross-shaped board or cloth from which the English game of ludo is derived. The advisors for this game, were later known to be Chopras. They were Noble Kshatriyas (Khatris), but also Brahmkshatriyas. Later they came to be know as a single caste (Jati) by their profession. Chopras were of a mixed lot. Many belonged to the Gandhara region, some from the Eastern Rajputana. While many belonged to Panchalya. However, there was a nukh (Sub-caste) by the name of Kumkum divided into 10 sub clans, they belonged to Ujjain (Ujjayini, Avanti) as it was know before. Chopras are mostly of the Highest Order among the Khatris, other than the Kapoors and Malhotras/Mehras.

- Sardar Bakshi Mahenderpal Singh, Son of Sardar Harmohan Singh Rai Bahadur.
- Sardar Harmohan Singh Rai Bahadur, Son of Bakshi Karan Narain, (Kardar of Laiya) and grandson of Dewan Sawan Mall. (Chopra Khatri)
- Mul Raj Multanawala (Chopra Khatri), Dewan of Multan and established the royalty of Mithankot and Son of the Great Dewan Sawan Mall.
- Sawan Mall, Son of the Great Minister Sri Padam Chand Rai of Koti and the first Dewan of Multan.
- Karan Narain, Kardar of Laiya, Mansabdar in the Royal Army of Lahore and later the Jagirdar of Mithankot. Second son of Dewan Sawan Mall.
- Yadavendra Chopra, Great Grandson of Sardar Bakshi Karan Narain ( Second Son of Dewan Sawan Mal)
